WHAT DO I NEED – PLB – MOB1 – AIS – EPIRB?

Emergency transmitters are an important part of maritime safety on board. The question is often how to think about the different alternatives. There are of course a number of different technical features to take into account, but if you want to simplify you can think like this:

PLB (personal location beacon)
Alerts directly to the rescue unit at the location you are located via satellite. Works worldwide. Personal. Registered by the user himself with mobile or computer.

MOB1 (man overboard)
If it is mounted in an inflatable life jacket, it is activated automatically as soon as the life jacket is inflated. AIS function. Alternatively – you activate the unit yourself if you have it for example in a pocket, however, assuming that you are conscious. Need to be paired with the AIS that is on board the current boat.

AIS
Mounted on the boat so that it can be located on a plotter and to see other boats that have an AIS installed.

EPIRB
The unit belongs to a specific boat or vessel and is registered with the Swedish Maritime Administration / Transportstyrelsen. When purchasing, a registration dossier is obtained which is filled in by the buyer and used to be able to program it. Detailed instructions are obtained when purchasing.
